COSTUME PROP POLICY
We love cosplay and the creativity behind bringing your favorite characters to life. Safety is our number one priority. We want you to bring your cosplay A-Game within the guidelines set by the El Paso Convention Center. The El Paso Convention Center has designated a specific prop policy for El Paso Comic Con. Final decisions on prop weapons and armor will always be at the discretion of El Paso Convention Center Security. While EPCON shares your feedback and concerns with the facility, the final decision is made by them.
- Super-realistic military, police, or firefighter costumes will not be allowed.
- Metal armor and shields must have dull edges so as to not injure anyone. Keep in mind, metal props will slow down the screening process at the security checkpoint.
- Costume weapons must be easily distinguishable from real weapons. All prop firearms must have a red or orange cap on the barrel. If the weapon is made of steel or of a similar metal, it must be secured inside a sheath. At no time shall a real metal weapon be removed from its sheath. Sufficiently blunt wooden staves and bullwhips are also permitted, and must be peace bonded at entry.
- Costume weapons capable of firing projectiles (Nerf guns, airsoft guns, bows, etc.) Will not be allowed. Bows must not be strung.
- Projectiles of any kind are forbidden. This includes airsoft ammo, Nerf darts or arrows, and water. It also includes “Exploderz”, fluids, or any other substances, soft or hard, which can be fired from a weapon. Arrow props must not have tips and will not be fired.
- All costume props and weapons must be peace bonded by El Paso Convention Center Security before entering event. Peace bonding is mandatory. After inspection, all guns will have zip ties or similar attached. This shows they have been checked and indicates they are unusable as weapons and safe for display.
- Any costume prop/weapon deemed dangerous by El Paso Convention Center Security must be removed from the premises.
- Do not brandish props/weapons in a threatening manner. Please be aware of how security personnel will interpret your actions in or outside of convention areas.
- Any prohibited (dangerous) weapons purchased from vendor areas must be securely packaged. Prizes must also be securely packaged. These items should be promptly removed from the convention center.
- All costume props and weapons must be inspected daily
If you are unwilling to follow these policies, refrain from bringing your costume props or weapons to the Event.
These policies are subject to change. Please check this website closer to the Event. This will ensure your costume props follow the current policies.
Event management reserves the right to revoke an attendee’s access without refund. This applies to any attendee found not in compliance with its policies. Attendees are expected to exercise common sense in public behavior, interpersonal interaction, and have respect for private property.
